Americans granted a Vietnam tourist or e-visa can stay in Vietnam for a maximum of 30 days in total from the date of entry then will have to leave the country or do visa extension right here without exiting the country, or do Vietnamese visa run via Mocbai border crossing – the closest land border from Ho Chi Minh City. Depending on the entry purpose of the United States Citizens, they can apply Vietnamese visa for holiday, business, relative visitor by the online visa application system “E-visa”, or obtain the Vietnam visa in advance from a Vietnamese Consulate or Embassy in US or overseas, or get a pre-visa approval letter for visa on arrival at Vietnam’s international airports. The new immigration laws effective from 1st July will allow the American citizens change the visa type, the entry purpose right here in Vietnam without leaving the country as before. The change helps US Citizens and foreigner to save much time, cost and more convenient so far.

 

NEWEST POLICY ABOUT VIETNAM TOURIST VISA FOR US CITIZENS

Before 1st July: All American citizens holding Vietnam Tourist Visa with 1 year validity are granted 90 days for staying. When this 90-day period expires, visitors can either choose to exit and go back home and then enter Vietnam again; exit to Cambodia and then back to Vietnam via Moc Bai border gate; or extend their temporary residence without leaving the country.

From 1st July onward: American citizens are still granted 1-year Vietnam Tourist Visa. However, there is a change in the period allowed to remain per entry. Accordingly, from July 1st, 2020, American visitors with tourist visas can only stay in Vietnam up to 30 days upon each entry.

Therefore, tourists should be aware this to have an appropriate plan on their stay in Vietnam and to avoid any sanctions due to overstay.

 

PROCEDURE FOR US CITIZENS TO GET VIETNAM VISA?

       Procedure to get Vietnamese E-visa

For e-visa, the application procedure is quite straightforward. First, fill out an online application form on the Electronic visa issuance website of Vietnamese Government. Second, applicant makes payments as required (usually 25USD). After receiving the payment, the Immigration Department will take in and review the application. When it is approved, the applicant can print the visa out for using.

       Procedure to get Vietnam Tourism and Business VISA ON ARRIVAL

For visa on arrival, citizens of the United States should contact a travel agency (if they apply for tourist visa) or the inviting company (if they apply for business visa) to proceed the application to Vietnam Immigration Department. When the approval letter is granted, foreigner can receive the visa either in the Vietnam Embassy/Consulate in their country or at the port where they arrive. (The place of receiving visa must be stated in the application form)

  2. Tan Son Nhat International Airport – Ho Chi Minh City in the South
  3. Cam Ranh International Airport in the Central
  4. Da Nang International Airport in the Central
  5. Cat Bi International Airport – Hai Phong City in the North
  6. Can Tho International Airport in the South
  7. Phu Quoc International Airport - Kien Giang Province in the South
  8. Phu Bai International Airport – Hue City in the central
